RE: General Games Chat
Well I guess waiting for them to come back and pick a random number probably isn't a good idea then. I guess you could just pick one for them and give it away to somebody else if they never happen to come back? Or if you don't want to do that you could just open up a new slot to replace them.

I'd rather be the HOT(-HEADED) ASSISTANT to a god. I can only take on minor things. The judge role is pretty minor in my mind as the judge already knows next to nothing about the case. Also BLENDER-SONGFIA IS COMING UP, gotta prep those reasoning skillz (I've already been Digested pre-game!). Plus, school is in 4 days where I am.

RE: General Games Chat
I was looking for places to put not mafias and then I remembered this forum was here. Might as well field an idea here before I get around to making assets for the game.

The general premise is it'll consist of a set of (mostly) grid-based survival games, all of them laser themed. Participating/winning earns you points of a sort, which will probably be used for some as-of-yet-undetermined mechanic. There'd be no limit on signups, and I'd just go down the list pulling 2-6 people for each quick game. That way, there's no rush for first-come first-serve slots and everyone gets the chance to play.

Any thoughts on that signup/player rotation setup? I think it's a decent solution for a bundle of small games.

RE: General Games Chat
They'd be varied. Perhaps you need mirrors to redirect lasers, perhaps portal devices? Sometimes you'd have to just get away from them. There would be one ruleset that covered movement mechanics, and one small ruleset for each game that describes the differences.

Maybe there could be different types of movement that they could upgrade to? Ex. Although one team might prefer being able to move on square in all cardinal directions, another might choose to upgrade to being able to move TWO SQUARES AT ONCE in any of the four cardinal directions.

And then hilarity ensues when they can move in L-shapes.

RE: General Games Chat
I can give you some advice. Whatever game you start first, try to keep it with a small number of slots and don't over-complicate the rules. The latter to happened to me when I tried to run my first RP game. Complexity is tempting, but you need to make sure you can run a basic game first.

Also, make sure you'll be able to devote the time and effort to update your game at least once a day. That's a biggy for me. Sometimes I come home from work and feel like something drained the life from me. Thus, I'm careful when entertaining ideas that'd take a large amount of effort for each update.

That's just me, though. Other people might have different advice for you.

Also I found Gecky.

Gecky Wrote:Hey guys, it's me, Gecky, and totally not Kocel impersonating Gecky. I'm sorry I vanished. Last thing I'd want to do is to disappear for weeks and not check in with anyone on here. Like SOMEONE.

Haha, uh, Gecky? If you're, uh, referring to me, that's a bit personal-

Gecky Wrote:I mean, or fail to update my game for a week while I'm traveling on the road like some sort of roaming hobo. That'd be a crap thing to do too.

Gecky, that's... You're cutting a bit deep there, man, come on-

Gecky Wrote:Or just have my character go comatose in the end-game of space opera RP, making everyone else's characters come up with excuses for why he's not doing anything. Man, that'd be awful, to be someone like that. I'm glad I'm not that guy. He sounds like a real shitlord.

...
I LIKED THE OLD GECKY BETTER!

RE: General Games Chat
I've been struck by inspiration for a game that's basically a version of DnD 4.0, but with special rules that might make it a good forum game.

The players are part of a Thieves' Guild that performs a big heist every week. Most of the time would be spent in a thread planning exactly what to do, perhaps with maps and things, and then one day when everyone can get on we play a few hours on Roll20 performing the preplanned heist.

The characters could be any class they wanted, though it may be limited to the standard DnD races. Bards and Rogues I can see as being particularly useful, Magic Users with illusions can be very helpful, Fighters and the like are for those times when strength is required over subtlety, and a Cleric or other divine caster would be nice to enlist the aid of a deity that likes thieves.

Any class can be tweaked to working with this aspect in mind, and to give room for this tweaking, I'd like to start the players off at 11th Level for all the Paragon Tier goodies.

I have the books and can pretty much do all the necessary number crunching, so players don't have to pay any money or deal with any of that. There's plenty of free stuff online to get an idea of what kind of character they want.

I made this post to check interest and see if maybe there's someone who would like to CoGM it with me. I can do all the behind the scenes work and most of the stuff in the thread, but I'm not certain I have to time to make this work as well as I want alone. The CoGM would be in charge mostly of running the Heists.

So, who wants to play?

There might be a way to use Roll20 to make it so we don't have to all be online at once. Basically I'd keep track of who's turn it is and they'd go on and do their stuff when it was time. Ever since I saw the program I've REALLY wanted to run something with it.

Same here. I actually got together with my bro to do a personal DnD campaign. Awesome Moments so far: 1. I drowned a hydra. Don't ask how.

So yeah, I'll love to see this.

Edit: As a plus, I already have my own character. Orc Druid, an animal companion is useful for pretty much anything.

Thieves' Guild

The thread has been made.

I've never played 3.5, but I love 4e. Everything is so gloriously streamlined and user friendly. This is bad in some cases where things are a bit oversimplified, but for the most part it just lets everything run very smoothly.

Skills are completely different from 3.5 and I think the powers are too. You should probably just rebuild the character using the 4E rules.

Mine's not until Summer when I can focus on it more. I've got it all planned out and have been dropping teasers, so that's probably where you heard about it.

Supernerd also said he wanted someone else to do one so that he could play.

Either way, I don't think it will mess anything up if you go ahead and start one.

RE: General Games Chat
I haven't been following Godhood S2. But I do remember checking the game out when it started, and I don't think I'll be using those mechanics. At least, not the Pantheon or the two sphere system. It's likely going to be closer to the "Classic" formula.
Three spheres. You get free acts at game start, but after a few turns you're on your own. Stuff like that.

I WILL say this though. I'm not going to be super liberal when giving out acts. A fire god won't be able to spam stars and get to 10 acts per turn by turn 4. That's not to say that getting acts will be too hard. But I do want people to have to work for larger act gains.

EDIT: ALSO! I'm not going to make quick actions a priority. Updates will come quicker at game start, but will slow down to between one or two weeks pretty quickly. I don't plan on letting them take longer than that though.

Space is warped and time is bendable.
