Maria listened, arms around her knees. “Yeah. Yeah... Look. I get that. There’s enough warning stories out there. Loved ones... You gotta make them a priority. You gotta be smart. But you’ll get your chance again.”

She sighed, quietly, and stared down at the tiles. “We all will. And then we can focus on all the other bullshit we were trying to before we had fascists to worry about. But after we worry about the robot fascists, I guess. Ugh. It’s always fascists, isn’t it? Of some form or another.”

Pausing, she squinted over at him. “You... You said you thought they got her. Do you actually know what happened?”
