RE: Infection: Lake Duhm Retreat
Trina read up on water filtration! She could construct a filter out of cloth, sand, pebbles, and charcoal to filter out gunk, and she'd need to boil it to remove viruses and bacteria.

GM didn't say anything of the sort! However: Jon could just take a swim if he really didn't want to be there anymore! That was always an option if he really wanted! But if the forces that be decided Jon was going to play along or whatever, he searched. Didn't come up with much. There was still sand. There was still short grass. There were still palms, he still had the wood and fronds from all of that business. His paddleboard was kind of a device already set for floating and steering around. If only it held more than one person, if only he could stay steady standing up on one.

Al figured that the sleeping bag had enough fabric for space for three people, if he cut up the lining AND the outer fabric. Both the same type of fabric, sturdy enough looking, not the comfiest thing.

That was very useful information! Trina scanned the essay for stranded island fiction to see if she could also learn something new there.

Jon didn't appreciate the GM sassing him again, but that was life, he guessed.

But hey, if the sleeping bag fabric was waterproof, maybe they had a chance. He could be salty at the universe later.

"Hold on," he said, dragging his board back over to where everyone was building a raft. "We build a raft out of dowels and logs around my board, for two people. With raised sides, waterproofed with the sleeping bag fabric - as long as you're sure it's actually waterproof. We row over, two at a time with the paddle. It'll take eight trips, but we all get off the island eventually."

"That might actually work, using the paddleboard as a base would make sure it doesn't sink."

Albert starts making adjustments to the raft.

"That is, if you don't mind the whole 'team' thing, since you're technically on the other side or whatever."

"Seriously, who gives a fuck," said Jon. "They only did that to make us distrust each other. We're all on the same team of not dying in their stupid game."

"I mean, like, hey, if you think it'll work, then like, let's do it." Veronica scratched at her cheek. "I don't really care about this team stuff either. I'm pretty sure that the only one who cares is, like, Brad."

"All right, let's do it then. I'd offer to shake on it, but, well, you know."

He pulls apart the raft enough to incorporate the paddleboard, and then steps aside.

"All yours."

Albert meanwhile works on cutting the appropriate pieces out of his sleeping bag.

Jon set about tying in the paddleboard to the raft, and adapting it best he could to have a lip big enough to maintain stability and keep the water out. He considered putting a partition between the front and back to make it extra safe if they had enough fabric to spare.

He was no engineer, but hopefully between the lot of them they could pull it off.

He called over to Switchy. "Hey, come over here and help with this. Bring those planks, we're all working together now."

Trina unfortunately didn't find anything, as a giant fireball came from the sky and killed everyone on the island. Ima mourned a mass murder she committed, over cold pancakes. Gus and Herb and Mat probably made a fair life for themselves until Ima and Artie got bored and took down the dome keeping everyone inside. They escaped after that. Who knows where the murderous pair went. All remaining secrets were revealable and the GM apologized for time wasted on something she didn't balance well enough and couldn't keep up with.

Gus was right all along. It turns out the only winning move was not to play.
