RE: Thick as Thieves
"Okay, docks it is!" Probably a good thing, too. After seeing her own body try to escape by climbing up a tree and falling flat on its face, Katja had found herself somewhat opposed to heights. Which was weird, because she'd never been afraid of heights when she and her brothers had gone climbing in the mountains as kids, but maybe it was just the peculiar patheticness that came from watching your own face smash into the dirt of a royal garden while cawing about who was a pretty bird that awakened childhood anxieties and DAMMIT KATJA NOT THE TIME.

Katja screwed up her (limited) concentration and started to summon some magical armour, the only spell she'd ever been any good at. Once it was finished she'd keep defending and advance towards the docks at whatever pace Jana could manage.

RE: Thick as Thieves
Only the aft of the ship allowed anyone to safely jump into the water, but Sayaid'e was blocked by the fire. Katja, meanwhil was helping Jana move but was held up by blocking the incoming strike of the firey guardsmen with her halberd. The other guards began opening fire on Huxley's illusions as they went the other way as Jana slowly moved towards the edge of the boat towards the docks.

Corey went downstairs, he found the firey hellscape relaxing. Diane couldn't find a window big enough to climb through, when she returned to the corridor, she saw the way leading to the upper deck was currently on fire. There was a large rock man standing in the fire, grinning happily.

Crys didn't see any sufficient cover other than a few crates. Tanis on the other hand, handily jumps the far side of the other boat onto the docks. He sees guards running by up ahead, but none have seemed to have spotted him.

"Oh no." Sayaid'e, seeing her path blocked, started moving towards Jana and Huxley to maybe help them. "Jana! Huxley! Hey! Do you need any help?" She starts aggressively moving towards them until she can get to where they are. She coughs slightly due to the smoke rising. "This is a bad start..." she mumbles to herself while covering her mouth.

Crys stoped and turned to the guards and put on her best panicked face.
"Yo dudes!!! Shit is going crazy over there!!" She pointed toward the ship. "Like the money guy came on board, and then someone tossed a smoke bomb, then the ship caught on fire and I'm like, Holy shit this ship is going to blow!! I need to get out of here before it explodes! And then there were gunshots?? I kinda just panicked and ran for my life!"

Tanis grins to himself and slips out into the crowd. Still, this wasn't the kind of spectacle he could ignore, so he'd head for a shadowy vantage point on top of a nearby building from which he could watch the proceedings unfold.

RE: Thick as Thieves
NAME: Joubert & Villeneuve Officer Class Automaton Model 3R7, short form JaV-3R7.

RACE: Automatonic Electronic Robot. Is strong, hard to damage, and capable of hiding things in his body, but needs new parts periodically. Not a fan of sand or inclement weather without the proper preparation and magic is just right out. Can also be taken control of manually by a skilled mechanic, though that's pretty difficult.

APPEARENCE: JaV-3R7 is hideous because he is a hideous machine, all metal, gears, and paint all wrapped up with a generous helping of no self awareness or sense of humour. He is vaguely humanoid with a domed head and cylindrical body, and gets around on a single well greased wheel. His face is surprisingly expressive, with a basic light display for his eyes and mouth allowing him to form basic expressions that also doubles as a siren. Has two highly flexible robot arms, and a secret, stronger but more limited third arm in his chest component for when extra justice is necessary (extra justice proved too frequently necessary for this model, and was quickly phased out).

ABILITIES:
I SHOT THE SHERIFF - BUT THE SHERIFF'S METAL IS STRONGER THAN FLESH AND HE SHOT ME BACK IN MY CRIMINAL SCUM HEART: JaV-3RT, designed to be a perfect crimefighting machine, is even more resistant to damage than most run of the mill robots, and also has finely tuned and well designed combat programming rendering him able to fight adequately in close combat and with most regular firearms - assuming his programming judges the use of such attacks necessary.

I AM THE LAW AND THE LAW IS NOT MOCKED: JaV-3RT, like many crime-bots, was not programmed with a sense of sarcasm, humour, or basic understanding of language you wouldn't find in a dictionary. It makes it very easy to misjudge a situation as needing more policing action than is ever necessary.

AND SO IT HAS BEEN AND SO IT IS WRITTEN: JaV-3R7 was designed to be the perfect crime bot in more senses than just unwarranted criminal murder. He knows the ins and outs of the laws of many of the major rungs of the spiral, and is similarly bound to them.

ED-209 WAS NOT A VILLAIN, JUST A GOOD LAW BOT DOING ITS JOB AND FACING VERY REAL WORKPLACE PROBLEMS: JaV-3RT, travelling by wheel, is extremely fast and nimble, and his arms allow him even more combat and movement mobility in a pinch. He turns well. However, it makes stairs extremely difficult and tedious.

THE LONG ENOUGH ARM OF THE LAW: JaV-3R7's hidden arm is significantly stronger than his regular ones, pneumatically powered and built out of solid steel. However, it is far less mobile and takes a fair amount of power to activate, meaning he can't use it whenever he wants and it is restricted to three actions at a time. Currently, it these modes are punching crime, shooting crime, and showing crime your badge.

Equipment: JaV-3R7 is equipped with his J&V heavy service revolver, for when crime really needs some murdering, a baton for when it is only criminal kneecaps that need to be killed, and a J&V heavy shotgun built into his hidden arm for when you need to completely dispose of the evidence. He also has some extra paint to keep himself looking professional, enough lubricant and sealant to keep himself clean and undamaged in bad weather for a day, some minor repair equipment, an extra battery, and a small amount of money.

BIO: How dare you ask if people are looking for respite from the law here. How dare you offer that. There is no respite from the law.

JaV-3R7 is hunting a criminal mastermind and bread thief Jack von Jacques. Jacques' cartel ran various wheat based products out of Suila Loi down to the lower rungs, of course meriting a crime bot response. JaV-3R7 was the crime bot in charge of the operation, but in breaking up the cartel (actually just him giving bread to poor people) he fled the nation. This dastardly plot obviously increased his bounty dramatically, as did the other unrelated criminal elements JaV-3R7 came across and just assumed he was definitely working with. He eventually made it to this proud city, where he's just found out von Jaques is actually a member of the von Jaques house, and in a heinous criminal and honestly pretty deserved given his demented pursuit plot they gave Jack's bounty to him.

JaV-3R7's current problem is that apparently most crime isn't actually crime in this city, and he is finding a way he might be able to act and take down his arch foe along with every other obvious not criminal in this hole.

RUNG: Suila Loi, the center of a large pseudo steampunk industrial empire spanning some three or four rungs and held back primarily by powerful neighbours and recent history. Having spent almost a half century as one of the spiral's criminal centers, enterprising officials and industrialists began a daring plan to introduce highly advanced crime bots - officers loyal to the law and nothing else and thus incapable of being bought out or influenced by criminal elements.

It turned out disastrously well. In a decade, all crime was wiped out by the crime bots, who also proved to be just as dangerously effective against minor criminals like jaywalkers or people who spoil moving pictures plots. The crime bots, somehow to everyone's surprise, were far too literal in their application of the law. Still, the nation was better off for it, and underwent the final phase of shutting down many of the now extraneous crime bots - leaving only enough to keep crime down.

It turned out that shutting down the crime bots was, in fact, a crime. The nation fell in months.

Highly organized, efficient, and ruthless, the crime bots all but run the country now, keeping the land safe. They have forged a new world. A world where crime is illegal.

BOUNTY: 363,296,371 marks and 58 bits of the standard Suila Loi currency, for the 42,630 crimes allocated to this individual - ranging from misdemeanor to criminal misdemeanor. An incredibly vast sum for the only unaccounted for criminal in the country in a decade. May be collected in Suila Loi after obtaining legal bounty permit, gathering bounty without a permit is highly illegal.

Just outside the burning wheelhouse, a single robotic figure seems unconcerned with the chaos.

"Captain, I have returned now that I have processed your explanation. I am still unsatisfied with it. How can one have a criminal bounty, and yet not be a criminal. I must be allowed to turn myself-"

The captain screams, clearly on fire and dying. Someone currently suffering the same affliction runs into the robot, who immediately whips out a club and smacks it down.

"Your aggression is unnecessary and a violation of an officer of the law. Please desist. Now captain, could you repeat yourself - your response was uncle-"

A burning piece of ship hits the robot.

"This situation is dangerous, I can no longer remain. I would advise evacuating the ship as well, captain."

JaV-3R7 begins to wheel through the fire and off of the ship.

RE: Thick as Thieves
Diane squinted up at the sky. "Been what...a minute?" Well, fire and fur was not a fun fusion, so, no. Not that way. Right, she took a moment to grab a bedsheet/blanket from the captains room. Now, she needed to find either water to dampen it with so she could ideally run through and out, or find some other way to bust out of the lower inside the ship.

Or...Well, this could work maybe. "Hey. Rock man! Yeah, you! You want to earn some money? Come get me out of here." She yelled at Corey, flashing a hand with a diamond in it at him. Ideally she could wrap herself in the sheets and he could carry her above and out of the fire quickly.

Jana nodded at Sayaid'e.

"You can help Katja here clear a path. We're almost off the boat!"

Just in case, Jana started preparing one final push. Once she was close enough to the edge to be able to jump onto the pier, she'd release the protection spell and thrust the energies she was using to keep the flames away outward. As long as Huxley, Katja, and Sayaid'e were inside the sphere when she set it off, Jana hoped that they'd be protected and not caught in the wave of fire and force going outwards.

Huxley starts to regret not taking less traditional schools like transmutation or conjuration. He helps thrust forward the released energies to the best of his abilities. After all, even a novice was part of the ritual. And he didn't want to be roast fox.

Angela looks around from her vantage point inside the wheelhouse and sees fire and angry guards in nearly every direction. On one side, she can see one of her temporary companions escaping via zipline, and on the other she sees the rock creature slowly descending back into the inferno below. Well this hardly seems like a choice at all. She takes out a handkerchief from inside her jacket and wraps it around the zipine.

"Welp, so long Rocky! Hope we meet again soon! Good luck with the fire and what all!"

And with that, Angela steps off of the ship and starts sliding down the zipline, holding her arms and legs up close to her torso to avoid crashing into anything on the way down. Hopefully she can also make to the next ship and escape into the crowd before any of the other sailors there have time to react.

RE: Thick as Thieves
Corey was enjoying the fire. It was nice and warm. They could probably just... sit here. Sit for a while and enjoy. That would be nice...

A voice caught Corey's ears. They turned to look at the big bundle of fur talking to them. That was a lot of fur. Sure was a lot. Fur was pretty flammable, wasn't it? The fur seemed to be trying to bargain, asking for a passage out of the fire in return for... a rock. Diamond. Corey had seen quite a few rocks in their lifetime. Still, diamond was a good rock. People liked diamond, though Corey could really care less. It was just a rock. They kind of wanted to stay in the fire for a little longer, but they knew that the shouting people demanding money would probably reemerge soon. That wouldn't be good, Corey didn't have any money.

"...Okay." Corey creaked, slowly tromping over to Diane. They started to reach out when somebody called out to them. The tall lady. Corey raised an arm, waving as Angela zipped away on the zipline. Goodbye, tall. Corey returned their attention to Diane. "Up." They reached out, grabbing Diane by the waist and placing her on their shoulders. "Careful, sharp." Corey pointed at their spines and then stood up to their full height before making their way off of the ship. Goodbye, fire.

RE: Thick as Thieves
Sayaid'e runs to Jana's shield and quickly begins to breathe clearly again as the smoke was kept out. Jana and huxley pushed out with their magical energies and forced the fire and smoke back, billowing over the burning guardsbot and forcing it back from Katja and Sayaid'e as the fire washed in a wave over the wheelhouse, there was the groan of tortured, warped metal and the wheelhouse began to collapse as the group jumped from the front of the ship. The burning guardsbot seemed to fall through the floor. They landed beside the donut maker, mostly, Huxley face planted. There was a guard attacking Bakar with his gunspear, Bakar dodged and fired with his large calibre sidearm, destroying the robotic hand of the guard, it screamed in binary as it reached for its own sidearm and drew a stocky, black box with a handle. The muzzle glowed red.

Angela, having followed close by Tanis on his way up the Wheelhouse, was already on top of the construction and escaped via the zipline before the wheelhouse was washed over with a fresh wave of flame and smoke. Unfortunately as she was descending to the ship across the way, the sailors on board were busy cutting away at the other end of it, Tanis was nowhere in sight. The line broke and Angela fell to the dock decking between the two ships, landing on an unfortunate insectoid dockworker who clittered agitatedly with its mandibles as it struggled under the sudden weight.

JaV-3R7 Barged his way through the burning fire and the two skeletal robots who were caught in the heart of the fire, ignoring the one attackign Jana, Huxley and all, as well as the other one which had crumpled to the ground. He made it across the burning gangplank, it witnessed the guards who had apparently not registered him yet, shooting the flaming passengers as they struggled off the ship.

Two of the guards move past Chrys and head towards the boat, the other guards were retreating along the deck, taking up firing positions aiming at the boat and shooting flaming passengers as they fell from the railings. The guard captain was barking orders. The remaining guard kept levelling his spear at Chrys. "Submit or be destroyed." It ordered.

Tanis manages to slip away from the ship he jumped off from and made his way past the onloooking crowd of dockworkers, panhandlers and interested city folk who came to jeer at the spectacle and the suffering of the newcomers. He managed to find a warehouse with a ladder leading up to the second floor window. Luckily the workers inside were distracted by the noise and fire outside so he was well hidden.

Corey Meanwhile, lifted Diane easily and placed her on his shoulders and safely brought her up above deck.

Unfortunately this happened just when Jana and Huxley shot their wave of fire backwards, catching the two of them. Diane's soaked blanket absorbed much of it, buther legs were very much on fire. Corey found it all rather pleasant, as other people would find light rain on a summer's day.

Angela quickly jumps back to her feet and sprints away from the docks and the flaming ship. In retrospect she kind of regrets starting a firefight before she even managed to get her bearings in the new city, but hey, stuff just happens that way sometimes.

When she reaches the crowd she'll slow back down to a brisk walk and try to blend back into the background as she walks away from the scene of the many crimes.

Seeing they are, she looks around to see what's going on around them(apart from the guy attacking the robot? She's not too keen to get involved with whatever that is. Diane's teeth gritted as her eyes went wide with the pain, some tears immediately forming. Didn't matter how tough you were or what tricks you had, generally speaking, fire hurt. She put her hands on Corey's head and pushed herself up to standing onto his shoulders. From there she sprang as hard as she could for a banister. She aimed to dive right over the banister, so that if it turned out she was going to fall to her death, she could catch at it, and either scale down or leap around from there at a more controlled pace. She either needed to get to water, or a NOT burning surface so she could deal with her damn legs.

After that, maybe she'd see about taking her anger out on some people.

Tanis giggled at the shenanigans taking place on the dockside. This place was the best.

He spotted a dock crane with its load hanging over one group of robots. Pulling out his crossbow, he decided to add to the confusion in true sharpshooter fashion. He fired at the rope going through the crane's pulleys, looking to sever it with a silent crossbow bolt or two and drop the crane's load on some robots.

The guard fired immediately as it saw the grenade, hitting Crys in the shoulder, she went spinning to the ground, the grenade, primed went flying out of her hand. It landed in the watching crowd and exploded, the crowd erupted into a panic and stampeded, the guards were caught in the disarray and distracted, the Guard captain turned from the boat as the guards turned to the new distraction.

Just as Tanis's crossbow bolt cut the supporting wires of the crane dropping its cargo onto the bots and crushing them as it crashed through the decking and into the water. Well THIS is all terrible. Terrible enough that Onyx leaves her safe haven behind the building, rushing her way to the commotion. Shit, she'd travel in shadow if that what it took to get through the panicked people and to her crime partner.
It's time to help her girl up! Gotta get Crys up and at 'em and just throw caution to both the wind and also the guards! In fact, she'd go ahead and pop up from the shadows to backstab the guard pointing the gun at Crys, if that's what it took to get him off of her! Also, maybe retreat back into the shadows if she had time, because those guns are scary and she really doesn't want to be hit.

"Hmm..." Corey hummed quietly, happily letting the fire rage around them. It felt nice. When the wave of fire washed over them too... Corey enjoyed that as well. Even when the smell of burning hair reached their nose. It was always nice to smell the different smells of things burning. Gas was always the best, though. Corey was so lost in thought that they barely felt Diane jumping off of their shoulders. It was nice and warm here.

They did, however, hear Diane shouting at them as she hopped back down onto their shoulders. Oh. Corey looked up at Diane for a few moments, a blank look on their face as they processed Diane's words. They wanted to leave the fire? That was a shame. As much as Corey wanted to stay, they also knew that the fur atop them promised the diamond, which Corey assumed they'd only get after the job was done. Plus, there was always the job of finding the smog that they saw on the way in.

"...okay." Corey shook themselves up a bit, straightened their back, and made their way off of the boat and onto the docks.

Angela for her part leaps from the collapsing boardwalk and manages to grab onto a standing pillar that was holding up one side of the walkway. She was now stuck.

Sayaid'e's punches continued to dent the beleagured robot who was now swinging its arms to get the plucky sea woman off of it, but she deftly dodged the blows. Just in time too, as a single, well placed shot from Bakar's pistol tore the arm with the functioning hand and the weapon it clutched right off, the robot was utterly at their mercy, Sayaid'e punched her fist through its head as Katja's blade tore it from shoulder to hip.

Huxley helped Jana up as she focused her magic on trying to keep pressure on the wound. Meanwhile, they had bigger problems, such as the panicing crowd. At least it distracted the guards.

Onyx travels as a shadow underneath the crowd of stampeding feet and made it to Crys' position, the guard was distracted by the explosion and the confusion of the stampeding crowd, barking out orders in its robotic voice, Onyx's blade tore through its chest. The robot's head turned 180 degrees and the eyes of its gasmask grew bright. It reached one hand around at an impossible angle for most organics and grabbed her by the throat and began crushing it. Crys meanwhile managed to get to her feet, taking out an EMP grenade and stumbling closer to the struggling Onyx.

The guard ordering JaV-3R7 to remain stationary didn't respond, following the guard captain's barked commands to contain the crowd so it returned to ofrmation with the others.

THEN A GIANT FUCKING ROCKMAN JUMPED FROM THE FLAMING SHIP AND CRUSHED TWO OF THEM. It appeared to be wearing a dog person on its shoulders doing some sort of circus trick.

Jana continued trying not to bleed out and die.

"Huxley? Do you see a way out?"

Katja yanked her blade out of the dead robot, then started scanning for any more threats to Jana or Huxley (or Sayaid'e, but she seemed to be able to take care of herself just fine judging by that pulverized robot head).

RE: Thick as Thieves
"We should go to the warehouses, Katja, Jana, and Sayaid'e," Huxley said as he helped Jana up. "I think as the local saying goes, we should get the 'fuck' away."

Swear words were the first foreign words he learned while he was in the fucked up zoo. Turns out you could make children and teenagers cry if you swore at them. Anyway, Huxley casts a calming spell on the crowd so they won't immediately crush him and the others while they abscond into warehouses.

Looked like the captain was trying to impose some sort of order. What a killjoy! Tanis looked around for any opportunities to perhaps break a cart and roll some barrels into him or something. He didn't want to resort to just shooting him yet, since that was boring and would draw attention back to him.

Crys stumbled over to Onyx. She was trying to save this when these guards were only her problem, but once Onyx was caught she didn't think twice as she activated the EMP and tossed it at the robots feet. She then went around it to pry the hands off her neck with her good arm.

"Right you are! Come on, Princesses!" Katja grabs Jana's other arm and attempts to abscond right along with Huxley.

Onyx struggles, her hands clawing at the robot's wrists. She can't use her powers like this, not when she can't breathe. It's evident she's trying to, though. Parts of her body flicker in and out of tangibility, but nothing that helps her get away.

Great! This was a great idea! Dammit. The corners of her vision darken, but she sees Crys doin'...something. God, she just hope whatever she's doing works.

Angela decides that she likes her chances better with the sailors than with the water, and attempts to jump over and grab onto something on the nearby ship.

Diane flipped off the giant fucking rockman and landed on all fours in front of him, her back legs crumpling a bit as they hit the ground first. "Ssss..." She whimpered, burns hurt, her eyes closed momentarily as she adjusted to the pain. After that, her expression returned to stoicness and her eyes opened, to look alertly around at all the surrounding chaos.

She looked back at the crushed guards under Corey.

"Hmm. Out of frying pan is the idiom?" She tensed up and snarled loudly, baring her fangs and keeping her eyes on all her potential foes, at least this was a more resolvable situation than fire. She could beat up and dodge people. Hard to do that to fire. "What's your name rock guy?" She asked back to Corey.

"Lead the way, then."

Jana clutches at Huxley's fur with a blood-stained hand, the other grabbed firmly by Katja still pressed to her wound. She walks as much as she can, leaning against the two for support, barely on her feet but moving forward and away from the danger.
