RE: Crusade
Marcellus watched as the sword spun away from the mage, clattering against the battlement. Good. And then he turned and saw a stream of fire erupting towards him. As quick as he could, Marcellus was rolling forward, using the momentum from his running kick to keep going. He rolled towards the mage's former weapon, intending to claim it for himself, if only momentarily. If normal weapons didn't work against the magic user...

"NAY, GLORY TO SOLARION! GLORY TO THE SUN! THIS DAY IS OURS! ONWARD!"

Ri gestures with his sword to rally the charge onwards! After a moment, he follows behind, limping slightly, but his spirit untarnished. His flesh needed only a moment of reprieve, and he'd throw himself into the thick of the fight again.

Instead, he takes out any scraggling heretics and helps tend to any wounded faithful.

Tomis draws a dagger and then moves to take his sword. He circles around the mage, ready to throw the dagger and then strike through the head-hole of his robe in case he turns to avoid Monica's blow.

RE: Crusade
Conrad had drawn himself up just after Ingvar's intervention, grateful for the Northerner's fury at that moment in time, he stood up uneasily and drew his sword, cutting into the foe as his knights rode about him. Eventually he was pulled up onto the charger of another knight and rode with them further into battle as the crusaders broke through into the city. His shouts were lost amidst the cries and din of battle.

RE: Crusade
The gate had fallen, and the crusaders swarmed into the city. The militia defenders that were still rushing join the defence were easily overwhelmed by the tide of Temrian steel. One last hail of arrows from Archeron's bowmen cleared out many of the last stragglers on the walls, and sent the few survivors into a blind rout. The city walls had been overcome.

Up on the tower, the mage conjured forth more fire from his fingers, flinging it at Tomis and then at Monica. As Tomis was caught whilst grabbing his sword from the ground, Heron leaped forward, raising his shield to deflect the blast of fire. Though the wood of his shield caught alight, it did not burn through immediately, instead just destroying the paint. Monica twisted out of the way of the blast heading her way, closing in to engage the mage in melee.

Meanwhile, Marcellus had grabbed the flaming sword. As well as being unpleasantly warm to the touch, it felt like more than just a well-balanced blade... though as he thought about it and how uncomfortably warm the grip was, the pale blue flames all guttered out. For all intents and purposes, it now just looked like a regular sword, though it still felt different.

While this was happening, Monica attacked the mage with a deft thrust towards his head. Though he was already readying another spell to attack her with, the mage was disarmed, and clearly not even close to Monica's skill in a duel. He tried to twist away from her thrust too late, and she scored a deep cut across his face, causing him to stagger backwards. The fire at his fingers faltered and went out as he threw his arms up to guard his face from Monica's next strike. His robe kept on burning, though.

As the mage was focused on Monica, Tomis had the opening he needed to throw a dagger into the fray from the side. The blade caught the mage across the face, causing him to recoil further and stagger back to the edge of the battlements, lowering his arms to grab the crenellations and stop himself from going over. This left him completely open, and Monica had her duelling sword through his eye before he could even blink. He seemed to stand there for a moment, surprised, before crumpling to the ground in a burning heap. The tower was now bare of enemies, with only Monica, Marcellus, Tomis and Heron standing atop it.

The dismounted Amarynthian knights on the walls called up to their lord, reporting their success. Alongside them, the Vylitian mercenaries wiped clean their weapons and celebrated this first victory amongst themselves. At the gate, the paladins caught up with Captain Ri, and readied themselves for their next trial. Meanwhile Conrad's knights formed up with him, one dismounting and offering him his horse so that the king might ride forward to the next battle. Archeron's militia were impetuous and barely restrained, ready to surge forward into the city.

More crusaders were landing even now, with boats unloading horses and supplies as well as troops making landfall. Amongst the mass of crusaders came a small band of knights and petty nobles, armed and armoured for battle. Amongst them were the twins Fidelia and Durante of house Neral - noble warriors of some substantial skill. Here, they were just more crusaders, amongst a handful of similar nobles looking to prove themselves or take a slice of the glory.

As crusaders made their way into the city, the commanders began to hear that the enemy was amassing at a palace in the middle of the city. Hurried scouting reports indicated all the elite enemy troops who hadn't made it to the walls in time to join the defence were heading there instead, though since the defenders were clearly outmatched, their plan was far from clear.

Ingvar hadn't been one to wait, and was already well ahead of his allies when he saw the rear of an enemy infantry formation. It was the glaive-wielding heavy infantry he'd seen retreat past the gate - they apparently hadn't decided to stick around and join the defence after all when they'd seen the charge coming. They were bloodied and tired, trying to rush back to join up with the other defenders.

"A-HA!" Monica does a long, fancy flourish with her blade, tosses her hat in the air before catching it with her head, and does a hair flip.

"Tell me, Marcellus, darling, how gorgeous was my work? Does my blade not sing a song of elegance, and of Monica?" She sheaths her blade in the fanciest manner possible and laughs.

"Ohohohoho! That Mage knew nothing of who he trifled with. Now and forever shall my most heroic name be sung! Oh, and you two as well, darlings, of course, of course. Tell me, what's your name, friend?" She turns to Tomis.

RE: Crusade
Marcellus examined the formerly burning blade, feeling its unnatural warmth seeping into his palm. He was glad that he got out of that fight with not only minimal singeing, but with an interesting... object to boot. Marcellus tested the blade with a few practice swings. Didn't seem to be too shabby as a weapon... this was certainly something to keep an eye on. He made his was over to Monica, his normal sword in one hand and his new toy in the other.

"It was alright." Marcellus answered. "You're not the worst fighter I've seen." He glanced over his shoulder, deeper into the city. "Still, don't get cocky. This battle's far from over."

"Ohoho! Oh Marcellus, you joker you! 'Not the worst...' Hah! All jokes aside though, you're right. There is more fame to be won, more beauty to be carved out from amidst blood and steel!" She draws her blade and holds it aloft. "Let this be only the first of Monica's victories!"

"Right, sure." Marcellus shrugged, examining the mage's blade once more before doing his best to strap it to his belt. That would have to do for now. He then pulled a cloth out of his pocket and began wiping down his sword. No theatrics for Marcellus.

Tomis embraces Heron.

"My friend, my faithful friend! Once again you've saved me. Ah, what a blessing you are dear Heron."

He turns to Monica.

"I am Tomis Artenis, Prince of Amarynth and by right king of the same. I travel the lands seeking support to retake my throne. This is my friend and shield, Heron Dary."

In the meantime he calls out orders to his men to fetch the horses and tell the skirmishers to join the rest of the infantry on the ground.

For once, Ingvar didn't yell until he was right on them, using his lack of armor to his advantage as he crashed into the formation of glaive wielders.

At that point he began screaming like an absolute lunatic, swinging his hammer to kill as many of the bastards as possible.

RE: Crusade
Ingvar vanished off into the winding streets of the city chasing after the glaive-wielders.

Once he was done embracing Tomis, Heron turned to Monica too. "A pleasure to meet you, noble lady," he said with a respectful bow.

The various forces that had not already charged into the city formed up on the inside of the gate, descending from the walls and forming ranks. The Amarynthian knights finally had their mounts, and now stood alongside the Vylitian mercenaries and the mixed forces of Prince Conrad. The Eiru militia of Archeron were just behind, waiting for orders, eager to press the advantage. And now the armies of the church were landing in force, the Paladins were brought horses, and could mount up for the rest of the battle if Captain Ri desired it.

The sounds of battle were already starting to echo from further into the city, where more ill-disciplined crusaders had dashed ahead.

"Hah! Noble?! You wish! I wouldn't be caught dead bleeding blue!" Monica flips her hair. Again.

"A pleasure to meet both of you, though, dears. Now, enough time wasted on pleasantries! Onward! Into the city!"

The indefatigable Monica rushes to rejoin the army.

"Nice one." Marcellus snarked, glancing at Tomis and Heron before turning towards the direction Monica ran off in. "Good luck with your throne." He stuck out the index and middle fingers on his hand, offering them a single, curt wave before heading off after his employer.

“Thank uhh, Solarion, if I had to spend another minute cooped up with that bunch I think I’d go mad.” Whispered Fidelia to her brother, armor clinking lightly as she elbowed him. She descended quickly, and got to the group of their forces as well as she could.

“You know, I always figured rainy foggy nasty sorts of days had cornered the market on bloody battles. This is pretty strange!” She had a smile on, but that wasn’t shown off so much by her helmet. She waved off to her brother, and then went to join the front line of the main army, where she figured she’d do her best.

Captain Ri mounts a horse only as a means of transportation. He prefers to fight on foot.

While doing so, he passes out citrus fruit to various paladins who looked like they could use a pick-me-up. Citrus was, after all, the fruit of the Sun!

Once she rejoins her army, Monica orders they take up a phalanx and try to form up the front of the infantry as they marched through the streets towards the palace. She wasn't the best with military tactics, but she knew such a strategy would be excellent in an urban environment!

"Porl, have your iron breakers prepare for a siege of the keep." Conrad ordered his mercenary commander. "I'm going to ensure there aren't any nasty surprises on the way."

He then ordered his infantry to fan out into the surrounding streets, ordering his commanders to hold each area of the city they secure until reinforcements advance ahead of them. Several of the Herenheimer light horse would follow each group and run back to inform the main host of trouble spots as they advanced to which the heavy cavalry could run to assist.

RE: Crusade
The armies formed up and advanced into the city. The cavalry formations had some trouble manoeuvring in the narrow streets, but between all of them they spread out and advanced towards the centre of the city, where a small rise in the terrain overlooked the harbour.

Before long, they arrived at the palace in the centre of the city. The building was built in Dytrian style, which meant lots of white stone and tall arches. As they approached, they saw that the palace square was being deserted - but a battle was already taking place. They saw men in heavy armour and navy blue tabards with swords and shields trying to withdraw, men in gold robes and chainmail trying to form ranks and ready longbows... and a ragtag group in white with a mixed variety of weapons, wearing heavy armour, getting bulldozed through by none other than Ingvar. It seemed like he'd been holding up the defenders and keeping them occupied while everyone else caught up, and was somehow doing it alone.

RE: Crusade
A hail of arrows rained down on the fleeing enemies, felling many of them and driving them into disarray. Though their armour resisted many of the arrows, enough struck home against their backs to break up the formation. Then the crushing charge of Tomis descended upon them, running the fleeing swordsmen down. They would not be getting away. With them came Fidelia, using the heft of her halberd to split the armour of those who attempted to stand their ground and fight back. It was by no means a fair fight - this navy-clad enemy was disorganized and panicked as a result of being overrun by the cavalry.

Conrad's cavalry charge was more contested. Though it broke through the archer's lines before they had fully formed into ranks, he spotted on the approach that each of the archers was also armed with a well-made spear, which they switched to as soon as they saw what was happening. As such, the charge broke upon an incomplete spearwall, sending men flying but suffering several lost horses in the process. These gold-clad troops fought with discipline and determination, though as they were clearly outmatched, they soon began to break and rout.

Ingvar meanwhile kept on battering the white-cloaked troops in heavy armour, taking them down one at a time. They seemed to all possess a small modicum of heathen magic, though it did not seem to be very effective. One conjured that same pale-blue fire they'd seen before, though in far smaller amounts where all it did was set alight the outer layer of Ingvar's furs, turning him from a raging barbarian who was smashing them to pieces to a flaming raging barbarian who was smashing them to pieces. Another tried to lock Ingvar's hammer in place with an invisible force, but Ingvar simply wrenched it free, overpowering their magic with his raw strength. For their part, the white-cloaked seemed shockingly lacking in close combat proficiency for the quality of their equipment, not to mention completely disorganized and leaderless. It didn't take much for them to see the army coming and try to flee as fast as they could, abandoning any semblance of order as they did so.

Conrad immediately pressed the attack to prevent any of the elite archers from routing in an organised manner, and to cover for the knights who were thrown from their steeds.

He called to his banner waver to signal the Iron Breakers to follow up.

"Take the palace!" He shouted as he cleared the way for Porl's specialised siege troops. "Secure the governor!"
