I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that you can set up a poll to close at a specific time and to be anonymous. The only problem is that us mods can always see who voted what (for obvious reasons I think) but I wouldn't mind trying to run a game with that system.

I wanted to contribute to this discussion more but every time I had something to say someone jumped on it and explained it in a better way.

wizard mafia: the game where nobody knows anyone else's alignment and the last player standing wins for their faction

There are a lot of kills.

"Have some wine," the March Hare said in an encouraging tone.
Alice looked all round the table, but there was nothing on it but tea.
"I don't see any wine," she remarked.

Yeah I mean we'd have to workaround it by asking whoever hammers to take a screenshot in case someone tries to unvote quietly later. (This might mean that accidental hammers don't get seen sometimes, but is that even that bad?)

Quote:I still don't quite get why town wagons generally have a scum on them beyond simple probability though (i.e. if you pick seven random players, picking seven townies is extremely unlikely)

Mostly probability along with a (sort of outdated nowadays) assumption that scum do want mislynches to happen

Vote analysis is known enough at this point that scum tend towards concern trolling in the one-offs nowadays while people (myself included) still habitually look for them on the larger wagons

You'll still find them in large lynches but it's more the day end "consensus" lynches where they join in now.

Yeah. The next step of vote analysis is to recognize when a mislynch was town-pushed instead of scum-pushed.

Yeah running through adventuretime and FTL scum seem to end up on town lynches either joining at day end or by accident when the lynch they're squatting on gets picked up by town

They're more likely to bandwagon each other rather than town

I can't tell whether the campfire or this thread is the better place to post this, but, uh, you should all watch this.

It's a movie trailer for a film based on Mafia. Like, an actual film. With a real budget.

Heh, fair enough: not to dwell on it too much, but I definitely did lose sight of exactly why I was cooperating with town in the midgame, and, while I may seem blasé about it, I do honestly regret my part in the eventual quagmire the game devolved into.

I'm a bit rusty at withhunts, and my activity levels fluctuate with my exam-schedule, so I feel like joining a different community now might give a bad impression. Still, if you can't get anyone else, I'll probably join.

With all these Undertale references it's making me think about how to make Mafia mechanics work in an Undertale-style build...

No guarantees especially since I'd want to make a decently large game and I'm not sure that's feasible now, but I might poke around with it a little bit.

Go advertise insomniac and use the 12 person version

Frankly I'd argue against games much larger than 12 atm; cuts the lurking and speeds the game up so you can get a feel for the game faster and you can probably run/play-in more games simultaneously so dying hurts less

RE: Mafia General Chat
Actually, Insomniac Mafia only now needs 11 players, or 6 more than we have.

I rebalanced it given the 3rd party talk going on in this forum lately. I feel like the 11 player setup is more balanced and fun.

So yeah, only 6 more players needed! First come, first served!

I don't know where else to advertise...

Hypothetical: Could we build setups for low player counts, then rebalance them for higher counts once people are interested and the low count version has been tested a lot?

The game I am trying to run would certainly work that way, despite it being a closed setup.

FWIW several people playing Prettiest Princess atm have said they are enjoying it a lot more simply because it is smaller and everyone has been pretty active. It might be a sign that cutting down on big set ups is a good idea. Doesn't necessarily mean it can't be a clusterfuck set up tho.

I don't have the Obschat link anymore so I can't verify if Forge was actually scum or if Seedy was the last one (she was definitely the femme fatal hitman/Sebastian Wyatt's endgame ship in the event of scum victory+SK survival).

Basically, according to half-remembered conversations with Sruix, Joshua Herriot/the N0flavourkill got wasted with Christopher (Slipsicle/scum from Schmaltz I) one night however long ago, and they made a solemn and legally binding agreement to leave all their worldly goods to each other in the event something horrible happened to their favourite cousin/drinking buddy.

How the Herriots (the distressed Scum godfather) and Felicity's Schmaltzes (Roleblocker and whatever Malky was) found out about this and reached some kind of agreement that killing the current inheritor was a good idea, I don't fuckin' remember. Connor Schmaltz/Rivenforge/another grandkid, from the third family branch might have been one of Joshua Herriot's drinking buddies and found out about the deal being cut?

Inside the safe that Aci/the miller/the idiot who brought Sebastian Wyatt onto the premises, was....... another safe

because this whole family is a bunch of fuckers
