Dawn of a New Day
[Image: mh5JYEM.png]
Three days ago, something happened in the city of Hanton Bay, Oregon. The streets were covered in a black fog while blue lightning rained down from the sky for three days straight (many quick to draw biblical references).

But now the clouds are clearing, revealing a blue alien sun shining in a yellow atmosphere through what could only be described as a giant crack in the night sky.

In the streets below many have found themselves changed and granted superpowers, though what they will do with it remains to be seen as a new day-nay, a new age-dawns upon them.

Setting

This game will take place inside the fictional city of Hanton Bay in the state of Oregon. As said in the introduction it's been under the effects of a supernatural storm for three days which is just now clearing.

Hanton Bay is your average somewhat crappy port city of around 50,000 people with it's fair share of problems. It boomed a few decades back economically, but has long since reached a low point it's never quite been able to crawl it's way out of.

There's a downtown, port area, warehouses, some innercity slums, some suburbs for the moderately wealthy, uptown area, a park or two. Just about everything you'd except to find in a city. Of note is a small island where the wealthy live with long fancy bridges connecting to it.

For ease of GMing, everyone will start in a lower-middle class residential area on the north side a ways away from the beach with a couple of schools, a Walmart, some convenience stores, etc.

Powers can be just about anything you like as long as they're not inappropriate or stupidly overpowered. Also powers should follow a theme of sorts and relate to your character in some way, shape, or form.

Ruleset
Characters will be made at Power Level 10 with 40 points to spend on stuff.
Rank Scale

A table for use in making sure all your crunch and fluff lines up right in your head.

The first table is a general organization of how Ranks compare to one another.
Abilities, Skills, and some Powers refer to this table to see how they generally match up with your character concept when making this table.
Want someone with superhuman hacking skills? Aim for 10 in something.

N/A Reserved for Abilities that just don't exist! See Abilities section for details.
-5 Completely inept or disabled
-4 Weak; infant
-3 Younger child
-2 Child, elderly, impaired
-1 Below average; teenager
0 Average adult
1 Above average
2 Well above average
3 Gifted
4 Highly gifted
5 Best in a nation
6 One of the best in the world
7 Best ever; peak of human achievement
8 Low superhuman
10 Moderate superhuman
13 High superhuman
15 Very high superhuman
20 Cosmic

Character Creation

Each Power Level (PL) a character has gives them 4 points and lets them buy Ranks up to their Power Level (or Rank 4, whichever is highest).

There are four categories of stuff for characters to blow points on: Abilities, Skills, Powers, and Advantages. Flaws give you back points.

Abilities
Abilities are your good ol' friends from DnD and the like.
What really defines them is that they are the base things that everyone has.
These are the Abilities you can put stuff into:

STRENGTH (STR): How physically strong you are and how hard you can hit!
AGILITY (AGL): How nimble you are, how fast you can run in bursts, how well you can avoid getting hit at all.
STAMINA (STA): How tough you are, how well you can take a hit.
INTELLIGENCE (INT): How much raw brainpower you've got and how much random trivia you can retain.
WITS (WIT): How clever you are and how perceptive you are.
CHARISMA (CHA): How good your social skills are.

Each Rank in an ability costs 1 point and negative Ranks give you back points.

If you have an Ability that just flat out you don't have, that means you are unable to do anything relating to that Ability at all.
If you have no STR and AGL you can't move at all.
No STA means you have no body.
No INT, WIT, or CHA means you can't think at all.

You still only get 5 points back.

Skills
Skills cover things from cooking to how well you can use a sword.

A skill that's Computers isn't really focused so it's just at a 100% cost. Technology encompasses computers but adds much more so it's at a 200% cost. On the other hand purely Hacking is specialized a bit so it's at a 50% cost. Back to the other side, being skilled at Science in general carries a whooping 400% cost! (So super science skills would need at least 30 points!)

Code:
BROADNESS CATEGORY  COST                    Examples
Narrow              3 ranks/1 point  A specific weapon, Computers, Hiding. Most things that are DnD skills.
Normal              2 rank/1 point   Biology, Engineering, a category of Melee or Ranged Weapon (Swords, Bows), Digital Technology, Engineering, a
profession, Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Cars/Planes, Medicine, Athletics, Deception, Acrobatics.
Broad               1 rank/1 point   Melee/Ranged Weapons, Vehicles
Wide                1 rank/2 points  Physical Sciences, Social Skills, Weapons

Try to use common sense and you'll probably do fine, just take into consideration the possible different uses for a skill.

Powers
Powers are supernatural effects that one can use like the ability to throw fire from one's hands or the ability to read minds.

For simplicity, they act kind of like Skills in that Powers can be range from Specific (being able to talk to house cats) all the way up to All Encompassing (can talk to and control all animals), again based on how useful they are and/or how many ranks you put into it.

The more points you put into a Power to increase it's Rank, the more powerful it is! Keep in mind that this should be decided by how powerful their strongest use of that Power is, even if their other uses for it aren't that strong.

Note: If you want to be like Iron Man, buy a very high rank skill in Technology or some sort of Super Science Power.

Code:
BROADNESS CATEGORY  COST                    Examples
Narrow              2 ranks/1 point         Being able to conjure fire/lighting and throw it. Being able to turn into a house
cat. A single trick with limited use (ie "One Trick Pony").
Normal              1 rank/1 point          Talking to all animals or being able to control a type of animal, fire/lightning
control. Super Gun Skillz. Being able to transform into any one type of animal (cats, dogs, etc). A single trick
with a variety of uses or some tricks with single uses.
Broad               1 ranks/2 points        Water/Ice/Earth control. Being able to turn into any animal. Having a suite of cat
related powers. A suite of powers connected by a single theme. Some tricks with a variety of uses.
Wide                1 rank/3 points         General All Purpose "Magic", Super Science Skillz (should be focused on a certain kind of
invention/technology), being able to turn into anything. Any power that
with you could accomplish almost anything you want given enough time and imagination.

If you're using a Power in an particularly imaginative way (like using shapeshifting to pick a lock or lightning control to jumpstart a car) you may also need some Skill to make sure you don't mess up.

Advantages
Advantages flat out are stuff that helps your character but doesn't really fall under the under the other categories. Being wealthy, having contacts, minions, having a secret bunker under your house filled to the brim with guns, stuff like that. You can also get misc minor bonuses/benefits.

Advantages that would logically have different ranks to them (being rich and being famous) can have up to 3 ranks. 1 rank would be being moderately wealthy or kind of famous, 2 ranks would be being quite wealthy and famous inside your type of career, 3 ranks would be being very wealthy and everyone knows of you!

Of special note is any Advantage that would give you a force of minions, there's two factors to this: Quality and Quantity. Incompetent fodder will be on the cheap but capable minions will cost more so decide how you will factor them out.

A specialized "Sidekick" gets 1 Power Level (and 4 points) for every Rank you buy up to a max of half your Power Level (so 5), though keep in mind that they are NPCS and may not do what you want.

Note: If any equipment you want would be a product of super technology, it's subject to a 200% price increase (or if you want to have invented it yourself buy Super Inventing as a Power).

Flaws
Flaws are sort of the opposite of Advantages, for example losing a sense or being very poor. Flaws can give back 1 to 3 points depending on severity (especially if they're no way around them).
Example: Blind, Deaf, Mute, Lame, Homeless, Hated, Language Barrier (doesn't know English!), weakness to lead or silver.

Contests
If you two characters come up against head to head or someone needs to do something difficult simply count up all their ranks in things that could apply to see where they stand in relation to each other /roughly/. From there see how it plays out according to what the player does with their character.

Though when it comes to combat, count up ranks as either Offensive, Defence, and/or Speed. (Allowing for Glass Cannon characters and the like.)

Example Character

Name: Anna Hamasaki
Theme: Spirit Warrior/Ninja
Gender: Female
Age: 17

Description
A japanese exchange student who got caught in the storm. During the storm she lost her eyesight in exchange for her powers. Her hair and eyes have been turned pure white.

Abilities
STR 2
AGL 4
STA 3
INT 2
WIT 4
CHA 3
(2+4+3+2+4+3 = 18 points)

Skills
Rank 4 Parkour (Normal) 2 points
Rank 2 Diplomacy (Normal) 1 point
(2+1 = 3 points)

Powers
Rank 10 Spirit Powers (Broad) 20 points
  • Spirit Barrier: Anna can gather spirit energy around herself to form a barrier in the form of spectral armor.
  • Ancestral Weapons: Anna can summon a spectral version of any weapon her ancestors
  • Ancestral Combat Mastery: Anna can access any fighting style her ancestors have used before and use them with a high degree of competence, instantly becoming the equal of any master.
  • Aura Sense: Anna can "see" by sensing "life energy" all around her, this ability is hampered or useless in environments that are inorganic and nobody has been in them for a while (leaving her with nothing to see). The way this works is that she can sense and pinpoint energy given off (and left behind) by living beings. She can also roughly sense emotions but hasn't refined this power much other that what she needs in order to not bump in to things.
  • The extra energy flowing through her body has also increased her physical capabilities a fair bit.

Advantages
Bilingual: Knows English and Japanese! 1 point

Flaws
Blind: Anna's vision has been taken from her by her powers, but she can now see using her Aura Sense. She is unable to read and cannot see in areas with no life energy in them. -2 points

18+3+20+1-2 = 40 points

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Bailey
General Concept: Supernatural Monk
Gender: Male
Age: 25

Description
A man standing a bit under six feet tall with brown hair tied in a ponytail. He was a student of a perfectly normal dojo at the time of the storm. The latent powers of the storm have granted Bailey supernatural abilities that are intimately interwoven with the martial art style he uses. While Bailey is by no means a problem student, the powers he now wields are far beyond his wisdom and experience.

Abilities
STR: 4
AGL: 4
STA: 6
INT: -1
WIT: 2
CHA: 1

Skills
Unarmed Combat: (rank 10) 5 points (Narrow)
Balance: (rank 1) 2 points (Broad)

Powers
Mystical Martial Arts: (rank 10) 20 points (Broad)
Bailey can use one mystical fighting stance at any given time. Bailey is also capable of using Mystical Fighting Attacks while using the Shark Stance. Additional Mystical Fighting Attacks may be learned as the game progresses at the GM's discretion.
- Stance of the Owl: While in this form Bailey can easily detect peoples movements, allowing him to easily dodge and parry attacks. Sneak attacks on Bailey while in this form are doomed to failure. This form is all about defense as opposed to offense.
- Stance of the Bear: While in this form, Bailey gains supernatural strength and endurance. Bailey will be able to strike with enough force to level buildings and chase people for hours on end. This form leaves Bailey open to attacks.
- Stance of the Shark: The use of this stance will cause a glowing aura to appear around Bailey, betraying the occurrence of his most powerful attacks. This stance will also shield Bailey against attacks that are magical in nature. Holding this stance will drain even Bailey's considerable stamina at a fast rate.

Mystical Fighting Attacks (Cost covered by Mystical Martial Arts)
In addition to conventional martial arts, Bailey can use these supernatural ones to control the battlefield.
- Hundred Fists: A rapid fire barrage of attacks which is difficult to defend against. This attack is effective against multiple opponents, but deals unimpressive damage.
- Mighty Palm Strike: A single fluid motion where Bailey strikes his opponent with a single precision attack. Just one hit can incapacitate.
- Serene Counterattack: With perfect timing, Bailey can turn an enemies attack against them. Not all attacks are possible to counter.

Advantages
- Respect: (1 point) The respect Bailey gives causes him to be respected in turn.

Flaws
Surprise: (-1 point) Bailey's Mystical Fighting Stance will temporarily cease to function if Bailey is startled. It is difficult but possible for this to happen while even while Bailey is in the Owl Stance.
Code of Ethics: (-3 points) As the Supernatural Storm has granted Bailey powers based on his martial arts style, they have also bound Bailey to the associated Martial Code of Conduct. Breaking any of these rules will cause Bailey's powers to function incorrectly.
- Respect: Bailey must acknowledge the feelings and interests of others, and never act in a selfish manner.
- Humility: Bailey must control his Ego and Pride.
- Virtue: Bailey must take things in moderation, maintain sound judgement, and have courage when confronted by fear.
- Responsibility: Bailey must take responsibility for all of his actions.
- Peace: Bailey must use his powers for the purpose of maintaining peace.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Don Jerome
General Concept: Mob boss
Gender: Male
Age: 35

Description
Don Jerome is a man of slightly below average height, but a wide intimidating build. His black hair is slicked back and often covered by a blue pork pie hat. His goatee is kept neatly trimmed, and accents his sharp features. On his broad shoulders rests a powder blue suit jacket, over a darker blue button up shirt. A pair of powder blue slacks, and a pair of snazzy black shoes complete his outfit.

Don Jerome is a crime boss who has been struggling to raise his syndicate, the Sapphire Dragons, to a respectable status. Setbacks have been common, and getting his foot in the door has been difficult enough. He's been limited to small time operations like cock fights, small time blackmail, and on a good day extortion. His attempts at growth have been met with resistance from more established gangs with more manpower. At times, he considered the possibility of going legit. He might have even done so, if not for the death of his wife several years ago in a gang related incident. After she died, he became determined to bring down the gang responsible.

Territory disputes have become more and more violent as Jerome has tried more daring tactics to take down his rivals. It has left both gangs in a bad way. It looked like both gangs were going to burn themselves out. Until the storm hit. Now Jerome has an edge on the competition, and he hopes to use it to his full advantage. Once his personal vendetta is over with, he can focus on growing his criminal empire.

This city is his. It just doesn't know it yet.

Name: Sally
General Concept
[Image: tumblr_static_tumblr_my37dak9bo1smlwnoo1_500.gif]
Gender: Female
Age: 19

Description
[Image: tumblr_static_tumblr_my37dak9bo1smlwnoo1_500.gif]
No but seriously. She isn't AS insane as Nui Harime. Sally is a girl found of frilly dresses and idle conversation. She is also a girl found of smashing people who fuck with her to death though. She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but she is fiercely loyal to her father, Jerome, and is willing to take a bullet for him almost as much as he is to take one for her. She is prone to violent rages when pushed over the edge, but tends to have a fun loving care free attitude at any other time, even when smashing someone to death with her giant fucking hammer.
Abilities
STR: 5
AGL: 4
STA: 4
INT: -2
WIT: -2
CHA: 0
(5+4+4-2-2=9)

Skills
Does hitting shit with a hammer count?

Powers
Super-strength- 5 points
Sally was stronk even before the incident. But this has elevated her to a whole new level. She now swings around a giant hammer effortlessly. It's pretty fucking terrifying.
Super-agility- 3 points
"As soon as I'm done sitting on my own head you can kiss my ass!"
Super stamina- 5 points
Sally's skin seems to be becoming progressively tougher as time goes on. Which will help, seeing as her fighting style is otherwise made obsolete by guns.
[5+3+5=13]

Advantages 1 point- Big ass hammer

Flaws No noteworthy flaws.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Marsilla and Ichor
General Concept: Tentacle Style Street Brawler
Gender: Female and Male?
Age: 17 and ???

Description: Marsilla has long, black hair that goes down to her waist in a tangled mess and pale skin covered in bruises and cuts. She wears a ratty gray dress shirt that she claims used to be white and a battered black skirt over a pair of old, navy stockings that are torn at the soles. Everything seems a bit small on her. She also goes around barefoot, as her last pair of shoes had become worn down way too much about a month ago. Ichor is a dark, almost black, maroon color because of his status as Marsilla's blood. When posing as a separate entity, he appears out of the back of Marsilla's head as a thick tentacle ending in a snake-like head, which Marsilla dislikes, as he's messing up her already dirty hair. He also has two yellow eyes that appear to be made out of some sort of jelly like substance that seem to just float around in Marsilla's veins when not in use.

Marsilla had been homeless for as long as she can remember, having run away from an orphanage a long time ago. She remembers hating the place with a passion and not liking anywhere else she came across. Eventually she settled into Hanton Bay after becoming tired and falling asleep behind a (admittedly rather comfortable) dumpster near a convenience store. She kept her attention off of her hunger by teaching herself to fight. Mostly it was just pretending to spar and punching and kicking trees, but sometimes she challenged boys from the nearby schools to fights. Most of the time, she ended up losing, but she had been learning and slowly started racking up wins. That was, until that weird storm had hit.

Marsilla avoided the storm easily, hiding out in various hideyholes that she had erm... 'discovered' over the course of the time she had been in the city. Or so she thought. On the day the storm passed and she looked up at the blue sun in the night sky, she heard a voice in her head. 'Hey kid' It had said. 'I'm really fuckin' hungry.' And it had burst through the pores in her skin, a deep maroon red, some sort of monster that worked itself into a living thing using her blood. Marsilla remembered screaming. And it had yelled back at her, telling her to shut up. Her blood spoke to her, telling her it (or he, it preferred) was part of her now, and if they were going to survive, they were going to have to work together now.

They started by robbing one of the convenience stores, Ichor (that's what he calls himself) pumping extra strength into her muscles and bursting through her back into four, bloody tentacles and also ripping four holes into the back of her shirt. They stole a bunch of food and jetted, fleeing to the park to feast on their spoils. Marsilla supposed she could live like this for a while, if only stealing sparsely. Ichor, on the other hand, might be harder to appease.

Abilities
STR: 6
AGL: 8
STA: 4
INT: -1
WIT: 4
CHA: -1
(6+8+4-1+4-1 = 20 points)

Skills
Rank 10 Street Fighting (Normal, a fighting style characterized by quick, strong strikes, lots of dodging and weaving, and the occasional use of dirty tactics ) -5 Points
Rank 10 Grappling (Normal, a fighting style characterized by use of grabs and throws to attack/disable/distance an enemy) -5 Points
Rank 6 Athletics (Normal, running fast, jumping high/far, ect.) -3 Points
Rank 5 Intimidation (Broad, A teenager appearing to exsanguinate herself is pretty damn scary. Not to mention when her blood starts talking to you.) -5 Points

Powers
Rank 5 Tentacle Tech (Wide): Ichor can protrude out of Marsilla at up to four points on her body and can transform into a variety of shapes at will. (15 Points)

Rank 10 Relative Invulnerability (Narrow): Considering blood is kind of hard to shoot, punch, cut, or otherwise harm in any way, something made out of it would definitely be classified as somewhat invulnerable; Ichor cannot be damaged by normal, brute force-y means. Sure, you could go for the girl, but that's a pretty big risk. (5 Points)

Advantages
Friends!: Okay, they may not be the best of company, legality wise, but Marsilla still has her 'gang' to rely on, no matter what! (-1 Point)

Flaws: Homeless: Living on the streets does little for your rep (+1 point)
Eating for Two: No, she doesn't have a baby, although Ichor might as well be one, what with how much he takes from her when he's hungry. She feels faint just thinking about it. (+2 points)
Slight Reading Impairment: Oh sure, she can read. That doesn't mean she's good at it. At all. Not going to school will do that for you. (+1 point )

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: "Uncle Dave"
General Concept: Homeless Prophet
Gender: Male
Age: 41, but looks mid-50's

Description
[Image: 6268922219_099e6658a2_z.jpg]

Abilities
STR: 10
AGL: 3
STA: 3
INT: -1
WIT: 0
CHA: -2

Skills
Street Boxing rank 6 (Normal Skill, 3 points, unconventional fighting between multiple opponents of varying skill and armament)

Powers
HE HAS RETURNED Rank 10 Broad [20 points]
-Water Walking
-The Feeding of the Multitude: Uncle Dave can multiply the amount of food in a basket to feed exactly 8 more than he is attempting to feed
-Parting the Red Sea: A path of up to 200 miles is cleared of ground water (such as lakes, rivers, seas, etc.)
-The Serpents: Can turn sticks into snakes that are friendly to Uncle Dave.
-The Prophet sees All: Can predict large scale catastrophe and provide small wives' tale solutions, which end up working. (i.e. Predicts a hurricane, says that those who sprinkle rice over carpet will be spared, those few that follow are spared damage to their home by the hurricane.)

Advantages
Everyone knows Uncle Dave, and he kind of grows on you. As a result of his long time "residency" in the city, many of the drug dealers, delinquent children, and other homeless people, know him, and enjoy his company. 1 point (?)

As a resident homeless man, Uncle Dave knows all the best places to get free food, medical care, clothing, and sleep. Just comes with the territory. He can find somewhere safe to stay, and fulfill his needs, even when extremely out of it be it from a surplus of drugs or a lack of them. 1 point (?)

Flaws
Addictive Personality, and prone to relapsing into opiate usage. Presently a drunkard and something of a pothead. -2
Homeless -1
Literally Insane (Talks to people that aren't really there, a voice in the back of his head tells him to do things [typically harmless things like helping others or peeing on sleeping people or getting involved when he shouldn't], and sometimes demons crawl around his vision, pointing and laughing until he screams at them to go away... Sometimes they don't go away. His skin splits and scabs at random, and he scratches at wounds that aren't there, leaving his skin pockmarked. Of course, he has lucid spells, but most the time it's hard to be around him. Random damage, sometimes thinks enemies are friendly and vice versa, random bursts of fear debuffing him, etc.) -3

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Zephira "Zephie" Nova
General Concept: The combination of a dragon and a little girl. Disaster ensues.
Gender: Female
Age: 10

Description: Zephie was always a loud, proud, morally pretty-sound street rat, with a solid smile on her face that never seemed to fade. Losing her parents at a young age, she'd lived with her older brother for most of her life. When the storm came, she was walking back to home sweet box with a stray cat she'd found, when she found herself transforming rather drastically. Her brother heard her calling for help, and came running to her aid... only for him to find his little sister with white hair and dragon wings. She'd gained the power to shapeshift between a human and a full dragon. Naturally, she immediately decided to turn to a life of stopping crime, all parts of her involved.

Stats:
STR: 2
AGL: 2
STA: 7
INT: -2
WIT: -2
CHA: 3

Considering it's a kid we're talking about here, it's pretty impressive. (Running Total: 10)

Skills:

Natural Weaponry: (Normal, 4 Points)
No matter where she is in her transformation, Zephie brings a particularly aggressive and reckless style of battle to the table. Claws, horns, tail... you name it, she'll go charging in with it. This aggressive style is quite effective. (RT: 14)

Powers:

Dragon Shift: (Normal, 6 points)
Zephie can transform into a white-scaled dragon, and stop at any point in between her complete human and dragon forms. The final form comes with a significant growth in size, not enough to have someone ride her easily but enough for her to carry someone, along with enough (Cha -5, Strength +4, AGL +1) (RT:20)

Fire/Ice Breath: (Narrow, 5 points each)
Zephie's staple attack. Freeze with one breath, burn with the other. Her scales get a secondary tint depending on the one she's deciding to pack or most recently used; red for fire, and blue for ice. (RT: 30)

Flight:(Normal/5 points)
Zephie can fly! She can explore the skies, feel the breeze across her scales, rise upon a thermal and send her brother into a shrieking panic as she dives for the ground. (RT:35)

Advantages:
Zephie's, y'know, cute and stuff, so she can... there's not much in her corner. Bar one little friend.

Flaws:

And then there's the Hoarding thing. For some reason, like any dragon, Zephie gets the urge to hoard gold and shiny objects, to the point a sparkle will stop her in her tracks even if she's chasing a villain and she's the only hope to stop him. She just... can't... resist the... shhhhiiiiineeeee... at the frequent expense of stealth or timeliness. She can barely withstand, for example, stealing a woman's earrings after a few seconds, but a necklace takes twenty seconds at least, and gemstones and complexity add even more allure to her. Do not send her to any jewellery-related robbery, you will be lucky to get ANYTHING back.(-2)
If she gets thoroughly soaked, she can't breathe fire. If she gets in a hot area, her attempts to breathe ice will be weak and damp, and in turn weaken her fire-breathing capabilities.(-1)
(RT: 32)

Name: Felix
Concept: Magical talking cat friend/assistant/mentor, polymorphed brother edition!
Gender: Male
Age: 18

Felix is the unfortunate combination of Zephie's older brother and the cat she was carrying home. Though Felix certainly prefers being a cat to being fried, as his original body was, he misses hands badly, among other things, and this has made him a bit of a sour puss. He can mercifully still speak English (otherwise he'd probably just be his sister's cat Mitzy) and seems to be aging at a standard human rate.

He mostly acts as her morality pet, eyes on the inside, and the brains of the operation. He frets about his sister constantly, but - knowing that it's easier to act as her advisor than tell her what to do outright when you're a small cat - generally runs damage control.

Felix's stats:
STR: -3
AGL: 4
STA: -2
INT: 2
WIT: 3
CHA: 1
(RT - 37)
Skills:

Was an apprentice carpenter for a time. No longer relevant due to a lack of strength and hands.

Powers:

None known at this time.

Advantages/Flaws:

He's a cat. This comes with some ups, and some downs.

He's got good night vision and hearing(2 points each) and has the natural balance of being able to land on his feet(1 point). That's where it ends.
(RT: 42)
He's got no hands. All he's got are paws, and they're not the best for the job. He generally has to leave carrying, writing, pretty much ANYTHING to other people. He's getting the hand of using his mouth and claws to substitute for one thing or another, but it's still difficult.(-2 points, settling the total at 40.)

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Not sure whether this would be allowed, but I had the idea and at least had to type it up. Tell me if the general idea is okay and I'll get it all finished.

Name: Mortimer Kane and the Magnificent Seven
General Concept: Multiple Personality Disorder
Gender: M, M, F, M, F, ?, M, M
Age: 29

Description:
A magician by trade, Mortimer is almost always wearing the most stereotypical outfit for his profession. A friendly but emotionally unstable man, Mortimer is prone to outbursts of jubilation, anger, and meloncholia seemingly at random, and has always been more or less unable to control them. Recently he joined up with a small traveling circus, but just as things had been starting to go well for Mortimer the storm hit. He was melded together with the other seven performers into one being, an act that might have destroyed him if it weren't for his impressive desire to survive.

Now, he roams the city with the souls of his former coworkers trapped inside his tortured mind. Fortunately he also gained the ability to cast some simple, real magic to help against any who might want to harm him in the outside world, though it doesn't help him with the very real demons of his own mind. They want escape, and Mortimer just wants silence, so who knows what might happen to those who come across the man.

The Magnificent Seven (10x2 = 20)

When under duress Mortimer might simply cease to be, instead being replaced or splitting off into his seven coworkers. Each have strengths and weaknesses of their own, but generally operate with extremely limited mental capacities, not being full personalities themselves anymore. While individually they can be as talented as Mortimer, the more of them there are the more taxing it is - translating to a -1 debuff for all of their stats (until they hit -4) and skills (until they hit 0).

RE: Dawn of a New Day
A quick review of everyone's character sheets so far!

Supernerd - Bailey - Supernatural Monk: I would just kind of smush his two powers together into one (Broad) power and have it so that he has in be in Shark Stance in order to use his special moves (because that's how I'm kind of reading it already). Looks good otherwise.

Rapt - Don Jerome & Nui Sally - Mob Boss and Psychopath: Talked about it with Rapt in chat.

Just want to say for everyone that getting more followers via IC actions won't cost you anything, but putting a point down for it will make sure you always have at least a few barring major things that would force you to lose all of them and all their loyalty. Also putting down a point for anything will make it a important part of your character so having guns or Sally's hammer or the like.

SupahKiven - Marsilla and Ichor - Tentacle Style Street Brawler: Seems good! Can't find anything to nit pick right off.
Pagan - "Uncle Dave" - Hobo Prophet: This guy is nuts and I doubt he even realizes he has biblical prophet like powers. Seems fun!

Leafsw0rd - Zephie Nova - Dragon Girl: I know her description is incomplete, but is she humanoid that turns to a more draconic form or what? Aside from that, I have issues with some of her Flaws.
Zephie is very unworldly. She doesn't really know a whole lot, even for a kid of her age (-1 points): Does this mean she gets kind of stuck in her imagination a lot? Seems that this is already kind of taken into account with her low INT and WIT scores.
She's proud and can't take a challenge lying down. These, along with a fair tendency to be headstrong, result in a very reckless and impatient individual. (-1) Typical dragon and little kid behavior, no problems with this.
...Both of which combine to make her very, very, very easy to manipulate. (-1) Does this mean that any attempt to manipulate her will succeed considering how much stuff you have going against her?
And then there's the Hoarding thing. For some reason, like any dragon, Zephie gets the urge to hoard gold and shiny objects, to the point a sparkle will stop her in her tracks even if she's chasing a villain and she's the only hope to stop him. She just... can't... resist the... shhhhiiiiineeeee... at the frequent expense of stealth or timeliness. She can barely withstand, for example, stealing a woman's earrings after a few seconds, but a necklace takes twenty seconds at least, and gemstones and complexity add even more allure to her. Do not send her to any jewellery-related robbery, you will be lucky to get ANYTHING back.(-2) Getting 2 points back from this will make it a fairly strong compulsion!
If she gets thoroughly soaked, she can't breathe fire. If she gets in a hot area, her attempts to breathe ice will be weak and damp, and in turn weaken her fire-breathing capabilities.(-1) Seems good.

Since she has two forms I would put down 10 points for the power to switch between them with 30 (+however many from flaws) points left to buy stuff for each specific form? . Or maybe she could just have one form? (Why does she have two forms even?)

Flying counts as a (Normal) power fyi.

In short: More fluff and please straighten/simplify it out please!

Palamedes - Morty and the 7 - MPD: I'll allow it and kind of like with my suggestion with Leafy's sheet I would say buy a (Broad) power at Rank 5-8 (depending on what you want the Power Level of each performer to be at, a gang of PL 5s is still a group of quite moderately powered people after all!)

Also I would put Illusion and Teleportation Magic as a (Normal) power each.

I may or may not change my mind about details as I think more about this, but keep in mind that this is a complicated concept to try and model in ANY sort of system. If you're not sure you can pull it off and/or manage to get the crunch hammered out you might be better going for something else.

(It also seems you might be using of one the WIP versions I posted in chat? I also did make a few edits to it after put the rules directly in the thread so that might be a factor as well.)

theLifebird - Floating AI Head Thing: (Talked about it in chat a bit.) While you can have -5 or N/A in STR and AGL (being unable to move or act at all physically). You can't have scores over 10 in the rest of your Abilities.
Here's a quick test build of your concept:
-5 STR/AGL since can't move. 10 INT and 10 WIT because super smart AI. Might as well throw in 10 STA for the sake of being near indestructible by normal means.
Telekinesis would only cost 5-10 (depending on rank/how strong you want it to be) points and then being able to connect to machines would be another 10. So that leaves you with 5 points to use so I'd dump that into having 5 CHA.
That's 40 points total. (-5 STR -5 AGL 10 STA 10 INT 10 WIT 5 CHA; 5 points for TK and 10 points for machine/technology communication.)

But even with me doing the build for you, you'll still need to come up with an interesting character in terms of personality and general fluff.

(If you've played DnD, you might have noticed that we're kind of buying the +/- modifiers right out and not the ability scores.)

... if that makes sense.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Actually, I think most people who go to college go because our society puts a lot of importance on a college degree, putting a huge amount of social pressure on people to go, even if they aren't prepared for it, which given the way our education system encourages only short term memorization to get through tests, they probably aren't...

I couldn't help but give my two cents.

Quick edit: Also, only counting 30 points in your app Discord. Unless I'm mistaken.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Belzio
General Concept: Summoner's Art
Gender: Male
Age: 46-year old senile (too soon!) weirdo

Description
Belzio has a hat. It's a really strange magician's hat. I do not recommend you even talk to Belzio due to the spiritual obscenities he muttered before and after the storm.

He was busy playing card tricks and doing palm readings. For himself. This was inevitable, he thinks. Just like how 2012 was inevitable. Yes, it totally happened. You cannot deny it. No one can. All Belzio says is the truth! not really

Magician's attire. The pants are kinda tight on him.

Abilities
STR: 0
AGL: 6
STA: 4
INT: 6
WIT: 6
CHA: -2

Skills
Mystical professions (ie, Card tricks, palm reading, or I guess a basic knowledge of what bullshit a palm reader is meant to say) (1 point)

Gymnastics (He can do a pirouette off the fucking handle. And he does so, quite often I might add.) (2 points)

Powers

Rank 10 Classic 52 (+2 Jokers) (Broad) Always happen to land in his targets' eye(s) when he throws them. Always. But that's not the major effect. No, the major effect is that they explode. They automatically refill when all cards are used. Though using someone else's deck lends strange effects. Throwing face cards creates the peculiar effect of summoning the face card in quesiton. The King's card has particularly wacky effects. The King of Spades severely cripples the target, but does not injure them. Throwing the King of Hearts will severely injure them but will somehow allow them to continue moving as they had before, though they should probably go to a hospital before the numbing effect wears off. Throwing the King of Diamonds at them makes them feel and look FILTHY RICH. Throwing the King of Clubs at anyone teleports everyone in a 10m radius to a night club. Doesn't matter which one. But there must be a disco ball. Throwing 4 cards of the same suit does something that is favourable for Belzio. Throwing a 5-card straight does something Random. Throwing a Joker, nay even HOLDING it, has devastating effects for anyone in the area at the time who is not Belzio, because Jokers are Miraculous (and the chance of drawing them is mysteriously cut in half, no matter how many cards are left in the deck. In fact, if those are the only two cards left in the deck, he may have a chance of drawing nothing! Obviously. Belzio can only hold 5 cards at a time when using this power. (20 points)

Metabolism lvl 4 (4 points)
Can metabolize food very efficiently. At higher levels, food can have powerful, advantageous effects. Even being able to overcome an allergy, for example.

Advantages
-Uncommon Sense! Things that are useful to know that you wish you hadn't! Very useful in strange circumstances!

Like this one!

(3 points)

Flaws
-Insane, mutters random things to you about fate, the spirits, you're doomed, etc. (2 Points)
-No Common Sense. No, no one is reasonable, why would you ever think that, Belzio. They'll never listen to your mad ramblings and will not even attempt at discerning your psychological condition but you should still scream at them anyway. (3 points)
-Deathly allergic to peanuts and fish. Fish must have scales. (Un)fortunately, there are lots of fish like that. Did I mention he constantly forgets to carry his Epi-Pen? Or maybe he already used it. (see below). Epi-Pens are expensive! (see below) (2 points)
-At least, that's what his friend Donnie tells him. But then again, Donnie is a drug-dealer, so what does he know about the hospital industry? Regardless, Donnie has been his dealer for a number of years and trust his grown between them such that Belzio is readily accepting of such information so loosely attached to Donnie's profession. (1 point)
-Always possesses a jar of peanuts. You never know when you might need to look like you're having an allergic reaction when you actually are! Oh wait! There are almost no tactical uses for such an occasion! (1 points)
-Occasionally consumes recreational drugs. Good ol' Donnie, what a nice guy for giving Belzio some free samples. (1 point)

Age:17

Description
(Brief history, appearance, what happened to them during the storm, what they're gonna do now, etc)
Enrolled in kendo from a young age, put through various other physical trainings that would tire many Olympic athletes in days. During the storm, he lost his memory but gained the ability to steal powers. He seeks to gain his memories back. His training, however, is muscle memory; he still can access his training, for all the good it does him.

Flaws
Lost Past:Jack has rivals that will take advantage of his lost memories when they find out and make life difficult. +2 points.
Limitation:Jack can't keep a power for more than 24 hours, and can't take it again for 24 hours after he loses it. +1 point.

(forgot that chris said ranks in our chatting on Skype)

Edits for some thought so people can tell me what they think of them:

New Flaw Ideas:
Supermetabolism:He just keeps eating. And eating. Requires 12000 calories a day… baseline. If he exerts himself or uses Adaptation/a adapted power, expect far more consumption of food.(+2 points)
Power thought:
Ki Blade:Allows him to form/enhance blades from his energy. Blades like this can both blast energy and inflict more damage than a normal blade(however many ranks 2'll buy me?)

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Edited Zephie. Removed points due to them being sorted with GM.

Note: There's four points spare, just in case Felix needs to be doubled in the points Zephie uses to unlock him. He's currently a Rank 4.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
He's leaving it up to chance what happens to him. Which I think should be worth 3 points considering how dangerous that is. Chris can decide what bad things will happen at 2 points.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Name: Daniel O'Connell
General Concept: PUNCH-MAN!
Gender: Male
Age: 31

Description

Six foot four. Slightly tanned skin. Taupe brown feathery hair with matching trimmed full beard. Muscular, athletic build. Piercing Malachite green eyes. A sharp chin. An award winning smile! These are the physical traits of Daniel O'Connell, soon to be known as PUNCH-MAN!

I, Daniel O'Connell, am not your average man. I am a man of STRENGTH and JUSTICE! A man who, since childhood, has aimed to be a superhero. But not just any superhero...I want to become PUNCH-MAN!! To beat up the bad guys! To save the world! To get the girl! This was all I ever wanted in life.

With the powers granted to me by The Storm, I plan to do just that.

Daniel O'Connell was never a clever man. He never got good grades in school or did well with the whole "friends" thing. What he was good at was fighting. In what little social life he had outside his family, he spent it beating up bullies. Or at least those who he had perceived to be bullies.

This life of beating up wrongdoers continued on well after he moved out of his parent's house and moved into what was an apartment in the loosest of terms. It was filled with superhero sundry. Posters, comics, action figures, there's even a punching bag with various supervillain pictures taped all over it.

He spent every second of every day training his body, hoping he would be struck by some divine energy or radiation or something and gain superpowers. You could imagine how ecstatic he was when he finally obtained powers thanks to The Storm.

Abilities
STR: 10
AGL: 10
STA: 10
INT: -2
WIT: 3
CHA: 1

Skills

Street Brawling (Normal): 5 points for Rank 10
- Bam! Pow! Bif!

Powers

Superbones! (Narrow): 1 point for Rank 2
- His bones have become excruciatingly difficult to break! They'll grow even harder to break as he becomes more skilled with this power.
Regeneration! (Normal) 2 points for Rank 2
- He takes the hits and keeps on coming! He heals at a faster rate as he becomes more skilled with this power.
Kinectomancy! (Level Narrow) 3 points for Rank 6
- PUNCH-MAN can absorb kinetic energy he comes in contact with and expel it through his limbs at a later date! There is a limit to how much he can store, going up as he becomes more skilled with this power.

Advantages

Tends to rip shirts when flexing. -0

Flaws
Never plans ahead or thinks things through. +0

This...This is why we now have PUNCH-MAN!

I see a bit of an imbalance between character genders. I'm considering making Bailey a girl instead... But on the other hand things may be more delightfully awkward if Bailey was gay.

Adjusted Felix and Zephie to make them share the 40 points, rather than Felix being a vaguely uuuuuu-ish Sidekick. In regards to romantic relationships, Zephie's too young and Felix is Not Human, though he's attracted to normal women.

Biv may be programmed with a male voice but has no program that identifys his gender. not that anyone would be into floating robot head.

Jack: You kind of seem to be having some issues with trying to cover too much at once. What's really important? A Ki-based ninja or one that can copy powers? His kendo skill is already high enough for supercombat anyhow.
PUNCH-MAN: Having 10 in his ability scores is already basically Super-Strength/Agility/etc. You can't buy more on top of it to go past 10, (but with skills you can). Also this character is kind of really flat fluff wise.

... if that makes sense.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Well, I don't want him to JUST copy powers…. Then it turns into kind of a draw or worse if he comes up against someone without already having a power in storage.
edit:also i want to be able to use kendo at a range otherwise all someone has to do is get away from him...

Swapped the 2 powers for some better ones. Also, what do you mean really flat fluff wise? Are you talking about his description?

RE: Dawn of a New Day
yes. he just seems to put it simply just a guy that grew up with super hero stuff. what? did he do nothing but think of super heros? weres the drama? in short he needs a past bad.
also making 10 in the three top stats makes you a bit op. try trimming down on your stats and getting more skills.

Without any discipline, that kind of power would be extremely dangerous to both himself and others. I suspect that the only reason Punch-Man is capable of surviving the backlash of his own powers are because of his regenerative abilities.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Yes, all he ever thinks about are superheros. He eats, aleeps, and breaths superheros. To an obsession would be a vast understatement.

No I'm not trimming down my stats. Look at The Hulk or tmThe Thing. Both are well known superheros that are nothing but sheer physical power. PUNCH-MAN is the same.

The kinectomancy doesn't go off in all directiona like a bomb, bur in a straight line, like a bullet or truck without the bullet or truck. I got the idea for this from the Dresden Files book series where the main character Dresden has rings that do just this. I think having 6 ranks is enough for control anyway.

Typing all of this up on a phone is hard.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Yeah but the Hulk is a pretty lame superhero because of it (also neither of them have crazy high dexterity). Being invincible and just beating up everyone all the time is not particularly engaging. Personally though, I don't much mind Punch Man with the sole exception that his powers should probably cost more? Regeneration and being unbreakable certainly don't seem like narrow powers.

If you had to go for more fluff I guess I could see you maybe wanting to differentiate yourself from the Hulk, as you yourself pointed out the similarity is there and it is slightly uncanny.

Also I talked with CC and he did seem to agree so I don't know why he didn't say it - flaws that rely only on RP shouldn't really give you extra points. Your 'planning ahead' flaw is one notable example, but Credit's 'Insane' and Pagan's 'Literally Insane', also stand out. Hell, I'd argue that 'homeless' shouldn't either because it's not like we're all going to be spending time in ours but I can see some mechanical detriment there.

Literally insane could have mechanical detriment tho, like 'demons' popping up and chasing him...

Actually I think that a power that only makes your bones tougher should qualify as narrow. Regeneration on the other hand, seems like it should at least be normal.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
@hector: even then there's the issue that you can just ignore them. Basically, if you can make a detriment meaningless it shouldn't count as a deficiency.

I suppose it could translate into detracting from stats, but unless it's super severe I don't see it taking away three whole points.

@Supernerd: considering how with regeneration literally nothing but bone damage matters, I'd argue that it even applies somewhat without regeneration (since bone damage is almost always the most severe and hardest to recover from).

RE: Dawn of a New Day
The whole "I see demons" type of insanity could be a flaw if they could actually hurt him. Not actual wounds everyone else could see, but injuries he percieved that he now had.

The reason I have both tough bones and regeneration seperate is for the exact reasons you stated Pala. Bone breacks are tougher to heal and sometimes don't fall under regeneration. I'd edit my app right now, but I'm still on my phone, and phone edits are a pain in the arse for me.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
The incapable of planning ahead flaw would not necessarily be a matter of RP. It would actually restrict you to "running up to things and punching them" for the most part. So if you had to fight a ghost that was impervious to physical attacks, you would be pretty much screwed.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Ok, I was gonna stay out of this, but then Pala said "You can just ignore them."

No, you can not just ignore the demons of schizophrenia, it's why it's so debilitating. If the GM says I'm seeing demons right now, I will do my best to incorporate what I have been told and have read about such circumstances. I'll be referencing several videos that "represent something like what a schizophrenic might see during an episode"

That being said: The Hulk is known for being a nerd that becomes a hulking brute when he gets mad. Thing was an impoverished youth who knew naught but hardship, who has earned multiple advanced degrees in engineering and was trained as military a test pilot. While in the Air Force, Nick Fury orders him to serve as pilot during a top secret surveillance mission into Vladivostok in the Soviet Union, along with Logan (the future X-Man Wolverine) and Carol Danvers (the future Avenger Ms. Marvel).

So please, don't compare the illiterate-yet-somehow-obsessed-with-superheroes-despite-not-reading-anything, to these intelligent brutes.

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Finally at a computer. Swapped some stats around, changed regen from Narrow to Normal, dropped the Planning Ahead? Flaw as it is more of an rp thing. Kind of working on a light background too.

Edit: Yeah, it is a bit of an insult to compare Daniel with those two past their superpowers. And thanks for pointing out the illiterate part, I'll need to touch that up a bit too

RE: Dawn of a New Day
Pagan I'm not saying you can in real life, and honestly I'm actually pretty offended that you'd read it and claimed I was saying that.

This is a game, and in a game yes the player who is playing the character can ignore something like that. Therefore in a game yes it is a fluff trait. You can claim that you will do your best to follow what a real person would do but unless there are severe, GM-imposed penalties for failing to do so it shouldn't count as a point-giving flaw.

It's not so much a trust thing or threatening to kick people out as it is a principle Pagan. Unless there are in game mechanisms to enforce fluff and flavour flaws (or benefits) there's no proper way to draw a line between people trying to do something legitimate and people just trying to munchkin. Good roleplaying is something that should be rewarded in game and not in character creation (where it has not been proven yet).

Of course I am not the mod so I guess it is up to CC.
